Maersk wins Excellence in Container Shipping at the Lloyd’s List Europe Awards

The awards, presented annually and honouring major achievements in the maritime sector, are given by the judging panel comprising independent, senior industry experts, chosen for their knowledge, objectivity and credibility. The judges are invited from all core sectors of the maritime industry which Lloyd’s List serves and they engage in lengthy face to face deliberation – under Lloyd’s List chairmanship – to evaluate each submission against clearly defined criteria and, ultimately, decide on winners.

The Excellence in Container Shipping award recognises the containership owner or operator that has best responded to the changing commercial and regulatory landscape. Some of the criteria include new ocean shipping configurations and port pairings, simplified booking and documentation processes, action to reduce ship pollution and other innovations that have made the supply chain more efficient. Awarded companies must demonstrate profitability, leadership and excellence in the sector and provide examples of exceptional performance in operational matters such as safety, reliability, efficiency and new business processes.

Maersk’s transformation recognised

In the official justification for awarding Maersk, the jury mentioned: “Maersk’s dominance in the container sector have seen them repeatedly in contention for this award on an annual basis, but it wasn’t scale alone that impressed our judges this year. The sheer ambition and pace of Maersk’s strategic plans to become a global integrator of container logistics are staggering, while their bold adoption of digital technology and approach to environmental efficiency is changing the nature of how a container line operates and setting the agenda for others to follow.”

Receiving the award on behalf of Maersk, Brian Godsafe, UK & Ireland Area Managing Director commented: “I am very privileged to receive this recognition, which clearly honours our ambitious transformation journey and the specific improvements we already implemented. This is a clear commitment for us for the future to continue with our efforts in providing our customers with excellent service and developing solutions addressing their needs.”
